The exterior of this building comprises of areas of solid, glass and balcony where a central stairway/elevator opening serves as the joint showing the break and extension between the two halves of the tower. This interlocking break relates to the path of circulation for each level and is carried further to define the boundaries of each condo unit.

Inspiration and Massing Studies

• capable of being protracted, lengthened, stretched or protruded

Research on several cases of protraction throughout nature gives me the sensation of connectivity where parts of a whole are provided a limited range of freedom of motion and exploration. Examples include a cat's retractable claw, the wingspan of a bird and Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. Hydraulic cylinders and hinges also express this protraction capability.

Conceptual Analysis

Stemming from the overarching project theme of HEALTH, my two initial concepts are derived from the following inspirations.

Similar to all natural forms, this inspiration expresses how the composition of elements cohere to make a whole. Muscle, bones, skin, organs etc. combine together to make the body. Below are some other examples. I feel that communities that have logical connections and natural circulation between spaces help promote a positive atmosphere for the public.

Senior Capstone Project 1: Preface

Hello! Welcome to my online portfolio where I will be sharing the progress of my senior capstone project. Through this page you will be able to navigate between the preliminary research, schematic design, design development, and final presentation phases of my project. The proposed scope of this project is to provide the architectural design for a mid-rise, multi-use condominium complex for luxury living. Included will be the design of the structural, mechanical, and electrical systems for this complex. This project, part of the Ovation master plan for community development, is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers in Newport, Kentucky. Essential design themes are inspired by promoting good health to both residents, the neighborhood, and the environment as a whole. Enjoy!
